On 09/17/12, TFC Cassavechia from State Police Troop A in Southbury was conducting traffic enforcement on I-84 eastbound, in the vicinity of exit 2. The Trooper clocked a 2012 Ford Focus at 82 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Upon pulling out after the vehicle, the vehicle sped up in excess of 85 mph. The Trooper caught up to the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 7 southbound near the Danbury Mall.
TFC Cassavechia approached the vehicle and detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted and TFC Cassavechia located a small amount of marijuana in a bag on the passenger side floor. TFC Cassavechia continued the search and located two large suitcases in the passenger’s compartment of the vehicle. The suitcases contained a total of 37.6 pounds of marijuana.
The driver of the car, identified as William J. Servos, (DOB:01/28/1984), of 158 Newington Road, West Hartford, was taken into custody and placed under arrest.
The accused was charged with Possession of Marijuana (21a-279(b)), Possession of Marijuana Greater than 1 Kilo (21a-278(b)), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (21a-267) and Reckless Driving (14-222). The accused was released on a $50,000 bond. He will appear in GA #3 Danbury on 10/01/12.
