despp: State Police Investigate Chaplin Stabbing

                                 ** UPDATE **                           


   On 02/22/12, at 4:21 p.m.,  State Police received a 911 call reporting a female was seriously injured at 95 Miller Road in Chaplin, CT.

   Upon arrival, Troopers secured the scene and EMS provided emergency care to the female victim who was transported to Windham Hospital and transferred via helicopter to Hartford Hospital. She is reported to be in serious condition.  Troopers obtained additional information at the scene reporting that a second person was also injured at a residence on MT Laurel Lane in Chaplin.

   Troopers responded to the MT. Laurel Lane location and did locate a second victim, a male, unresponsive in the driveway outside the residence.  The male subject was pronounced dead at the scene by responding EMS personnel.

   Both scenes were secured by Troopers.  State Police Eastern District Major Crime Detectives responded to the scenes to conduct the criminal investigation into this incident.   

   The identity of the deceased has been established by State Police. The deceased male is identified as MICHAEL MITCHEL, D.O.B.: 07/08/69, of 3 Bellview St., Willimantic.  The cause of death was multiple stab wounds and the death is ruled a homicide.  The identity of the female has not been established.  She remains in extremely serious condition.

   State Police Major Crime Squad Detectives and the Chaplin Resident Trooper are continuing this homicide investigation.  Troopers are following leads and evidence in this case and have determined this is an isolated incident.

   This investigation is continuing.
