Underground Storage Tanks (USTs)

Notification was recently sent to many UST owners providing information on Public Act 09-03 which became effective on October 1, 2009.  This legislation requires that owners/operators of motor fuel underground storage tanks submit an annual registration and fee of $100 per tank.  Invoices are scheduled to be sent to owners/operators on or about March 1, 2010.

In Connecticut, there are tens of thousands of underground storage tanks currently in use for commercial and residential purposes.  To address the pervasive threat posed by the failure of UST systems, the DEP has a number of programs to foster compliance with removal and upgrading requirements, while creating a mechanism to assist UST owners and operators with the removal and/or closure of USTs and the investigation and remediation of UST releases.
