Certified CARE Instructors offer a wide variety of opportunities for you, friends and family to learn about water, fish and fishing. Most are designed for families and kids age 9 and up. They are SO MUCH FUN! Many include safety tips, casting practice and will teach you to identify, clean, cook, or release your catch. Instruction and materials are offered free of charge. You can use our fishing gear during class and may even qualify for a Family Fishing Course diploma!

To learn more about the fun awaiting you, visit the CARE program webpage. If there are no classes offered in your area, have your local recreation department contact the CARE Center at (860) 663-1656. We’ll try to get one started!

Courses, classes and events are held year-round. Those available now are listed below.

{Photo of boy with largemouth bass} Family Fishing Courses  Our very best! Learn all you need to know about water, fish and fishing. Spend time learning with experienced Instructors in the classroom, then go on a fishing trip! Local recreation departments and outdoor education centers host many of these classes.

Courses at the CARE Center  School teachers and homeschool group leaders should contact us. Students complete several lessons offsite and then visit our Center and pond for a fishing adventure.

Ice Fishing Classes and Events  Learn about this fun and interesting sport. January classes in towns across the State lead up to an actual family ice fishing experience.

Summer Fishing Classes  Half-day classes are offered to day camps and youth groups each summer. Environmental activities are followed by time spent fishing. Access to fishable water is required.

Special Fishing Classes and Events  Mostly single-day events, they may include casting practice, a fishing derby, fly-tying or anything else related to water, fish and fishing.
