DEMHS: Welcome Message

{Peter J. Boynton}
Peter J. Boynton, Commissioner
Department of  Emergency Management  & Homeland Security

Welcome to the Department of Emergency Management

and Homeland Security (DEMHS).

DEMHS is designated within Title 28 of the Connecticut

General Statutes as the emergency management and homeland security agency for the State of Connecticut.

Our mission is to coordinate available resources to protect the life    and property of the citizens of Connecticut through a collaborative partnership to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from, disasters or emergencies.

Our partners include local communities and agencies, other state agencies, tribal nations, federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and members of the general public.  Our all-hazards planning efforts include improving resiliency for natural events, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and winter storms, as well as for potential terrorism-related events.

Our mission and our service to the citizens of Connecticut is only made possible by the tremendous efforts of all our partners, whose work with DEMHS includes drafting and updating plans and participating in training, drills, and exercises.  It is particularly critical that DEMHS continue to assist and support the work being done at the local level to develop and sustain regional emergency planning and mutual aid capabilities as part of improving overall resiliency.

These collaborative efforts help make Connecticut a safer place to live and work by improving our preparedness to prevent and respond to all-hazard emergencies and incidents.

Be Ready,

Peter J. Boynton

Commissioner
