- Zoning & Overlay Zones allow a community to clearly defining areas appropriate for growth, as well as areas where growth should be discouraged or prohibited. These zones can address rebuilding restrictions and help to achieve cluster development. The Model Bylaw for Effectively Managing Coastal Floodplain Development available through the Cape Cod Commission can help a community craft a bylaw that’s appropriate to their circumstances.
- Building Codes & Resilient Design can be used to alter both the siting and construction of a structure to maximize its capacity to withstand flooding. Although the current National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) sets minimum standards, communities can set higher standards or incentivizes higher standards to improve future resilience.
