Section 305(b) of the Federal Clean Water Act (CWA) requires each State to monitor, assess and report on the quality of its waters relative to designated uses established in accordance with the Connecticut's Water Quality Standards. Section 303(d) of the CWA requires each State to list waters not meeting water quality standards and prioritize those waters for Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development or other management.  Reporting for these waters is submitted to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) every two years. 

 

Since 2004, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) has submitted the Water Quality Report to Congress (305(b) Report) and List of Waters Not Meeting Water Quality Standards (303(d) List) as the Integrated Water Quality Report (IWQR).  Connecticut's CALM or Consolidated Assessment and Listing Methodology has also been included in the IWQR as Chapter 1.

 

The approved final documents are available for the 2012 Connecticut Integrated Water Quality Report and accompanying Integrated Water Quality Report Fact Sheet.  This Report was prepared by DEEP to fulfill a requirement of the Federal Clean Water Act under Section 303(d) which is administered by the US EPA.  An informational meeting was conducted at DEEP Headquarters on October 11, 2012 and the public comment period closed on October 29, 2012.  The comments received by the Department are available as well as the Department's response to each comment.  The EPA provided an approval letter and documented review for Connecticut's 303(d) list on January 30, 2013.
