Pesticide Management Program

Important Notice Regarding Reclassification of Neonicotinoid Pesticides

Public Act 16-17 requires that, not later than January 1, 2018, the Commissioner classify all neonicotinoids (as defined by the Act) that are labeled for treating plants, as restricted use. Pursuant to the Act, the classification of pesticide products currently registered in Connecticut which contain clothianidin, dinotefuran, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam will be changed from general use to restricted use effective January 1, 2017.

The Notice of Reclassification of Neonicotinoid Pesticides Used for Treating Plants and the Notice to Wholesalers/Distributors/Retailers provide a list of the affected pesticides and the schedule for implementing the Act.

The main goal of the Pesticide Management Program is to prevent adverse human health or environmental effects from the misuse of pesticides.

Pesticide management programs include:

Registration of Pesticides - controls the pesticide products being used in the state.
- Restricted Use and Permit Use Pesticides in Connecticut - A list of currently restricted use or permit use pesticides in Connecticut.
Registration of Pesticide Dealers - All persons who wish to sell or distribute Restricted-Use or Permit-Use pesticides in the State of Connecticut must initially pass an exam offered by the department and register annually with the department. (Word Form, PDF Form).
- Study Manual for Pesticide Dealers
Certification of Pesticide Applicators and enforcement of pesticide use as specified in directions on labels - ensures that pesticides are used properly.
Registration of Pesticide Application Businesses - The Pesticide Application Business Registration includes registration for arborist businesses. (The requirement to register your arborist business became effective October 1, 2013.)
Integrated pest management (IPM) - IPM is promoted as a method to achieve high quality pest control while reducing pesticide impacts.

Golf Course Annual Fee
Section 22a-54a of the Connecticut General Statutes establishes an annual fee for golf courses which have a course length of greater than 1,000 yards. This fee must be paid to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection no later than December 31 of each year. Each golf course fee payment ($250.00) must be accompanied by a completed Golf Course Fee Payment Form (Word Form; PDF Form).
