Description: The Engineering and Field Support Services Division has a number of seasonal positions available at the Eastern District Headquarters located in Marlborough; Western District Headquarters located in Harwinton;  Thomaston Maintenance Facility located in Thomaston; Marine District Headquarters located in Old Lyme, Squaw Rock Maintenance Facility located in Moosup;  Portland Complex located in Portland; and Wetlands Restoration Unit located in Madison, Ct. Positions available: Maintainer, Crew Leader, Office Assistant, Automotive Repair Technician, Electrical Technician Assistant, Plumbing/Heating Technician Assistant and Wetlands Restoration/Mosquito Control Assistant.
 
Pay Rate:  Pay rate varies from $8.70 to $14.00 per hour depending on experience. There are no benefits.
 
Hours & Anticipated Length of Positions:  Certain positions are available throughout the year. No night or weekend work is required. Positions are (up to) 40 hours per week.

MAINTAINER Duties - Performs work related to the maintenance and operation of DEEP boat launches, dams and managed lands and facilities including, but not limited to, mowing, trimming, cleaning, janitorial, routine preventative maintenance, litter pickup and painting.  This position may require work in adverse weather conditions and some heavy lifting.   
Positions may also be available for those with additional levels of training and experience.  These positions involve the use of construction equipment, assist with the operation of a sawmill,  operating chain saws, brush cutters, wood chippers, tractors, medium duty vehicles and the use of skills in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repairs, grounds maintenance or working on a fire crew.

Special Requirements: Required to possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and may operate vehicles that tow landscape trailers and equipment.
 
CREW LEADER Duties - Supervises and works with an assigned crew of seasonal maintainers in activities involving the operation and maintenance of DEEP boat launches and dam maintenance.  Operates necessary equipment; performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment; may perform highly skilled work; may assist in planning work schedules; may assist in job planning and in preparation of material lists; record and time keeping responsibilities. This position may require work in adverse weather conditions and some heavy lifting.

Special Requirements: Minimum one season satisfactory DEEP or related work experience; must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and may operate vehicles that tow landscape trailers and equipment.
 
OFFICE ASSISTANT Duties - Provides general office support services.  Performs a wide variety of basic clerical functions including, but not limited to, typing, word processing, filing, answering telephones, receiving and directing visitors, sportsmen’s licenses sales, handling routine request for information or program materials, assist with mass mailings, preparing routine forms.

AUTOMOTIVE/EQUIPMENT REPAIR TECHNICIAN ASSISTANT Duties - Performs work related to the repair and maintenance of DEEP fleet vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to, light services, routine preventative maintenance, cleaning of tools and equipment, parts pickup, small engine repairs, blade sharpening, provide assistance in tire replacement, oil changes, trailer wiring, 2-cycle engine repairs, spark plug replacements, filter cleaning and/or replacement and equipment lubrication.  Will be required to work under the direct supervision of a qualified automotive technician.

ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN ASSISTANT Duties - Performs work related to the repair and maintenance of DEEP owned electrical systems. This position would be assisting a licensed electrician in the performance of job duties throughout the state at DEEP facilities. Work includes but is not limited to: routine maintenance and repairs; cleaning of truck, tools and equipment; assist in installing electrical systems, lighting, outlets and circuit breakers; assist in site inspections, making parts runs. This position may require work in adverse weather conditions and some heavy lifting. This position will be required to work under the direct supervision of a licensed electrician or supervisor.

PLUMBING/HEATING TECHNICIAN ASSISTANT Duties—Performs work related to the repair and maintenance of DEEP owned plumbing systems. This position would be assisting a licensed plumber in the performance of job duties throughout the state at DEEP facilities. Work includes but is not limited to: routine maintenance and repairs; cleaning of truck, tools and equipment; assisting plumber in turning on and draining seasonal water systems; making parts runs; snaking drains, provide assistance to general maintenance and repair to boilers and burners and the installation of heating systems. This position may require work in adverse weather conditions and some heavy lifting. This position will be required to work under the direct supervision of a licensed plumber or supervisor.

WETLANDS RESTORATION/ MOSQUITO CONTROL ASSISTANT Duties— Seasonal employees assist the permanent staff in performing tasks associated with field operations.  Performs work related to the preservation and maintenance to marshes, tidal areas, wetlands, inspect wetlands for mosquito larvae and applies larvicides, wildlife management areas and other DEEP and municipal owned properties.  May operate specialized low ground pressure equipment, spray equipment, mowing equipment, applies herbicides to control invasive plants, perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment. This position may require work in adverse weather conditions and some heavy lifting.   Will be required to work under the direct supervision of a qualified Wetlands Restoration Specialist.

Special Requirements: Required to possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.  May be required to obtain a pesticide application certification
