The final “Free Fishing License Day"
for 2016 is Sunday, August 13th. To fish on that day, anyone can obtain a free one-day fishing license good for both the inland and marine districts, a perfect time to “try before you buy.” The CARE Program will host a saltwater fishing event at Fort Trumbull State Park, New London, from 10 am to 3 pm. All the equipment and bait will be provided, you provide the enthusiasm and smiles. The free 1-day license will be available through our mobile friendly system starting on July 27, 2016.

Notice to Recreational Fishermen
Anglers are advised that the state of Rhode Island has adopted the following regulations pertaining to striped bass. These regulations apply to all Rhode Island state lands and waters including the waters around Block Island:
“Any person recreationally harvesting a striped bass thirty-four (34) inches or larger shall at the time of harvest have the right pectoral fin removed at a point as close to the body of the fish as possible.”

DEEP Seeking Public Input on
Barn Island WMA Management Assessment Report
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Wildlife Division is seeking public input on a Management Assessment Report prepared by Connecticut College for DEEP’s Barn Island Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Stonington. At just over 1,000 acres, Barn Island is Connecticut’s largest, most diverse, and ecologically significant coastal wildlife management area. The report, which is entitled, Management Assessment Report – Barn Island Wildlife Management Area, Stonington, Connecticut, can be found on the DEEP website at www.ct.gov/deep/BarnIslandWMA.

Bonus Striped Bass Fishing Program
Reporting cards & Tags available Wednesday, April 20th. The Bonus Striped Bass Program will run from May 1 through December 31 in 2016. DEEP will distribute TWO Harvest Tags and Harvest Report Cards per license holder this year. The tag must be securely affixed to the jaw of the fish immediately upon harvest and must remain on the fish until you arrive home.

Notice to Fixed Gear Fishermen
A survey to determine the locations of documented and reported historic shipwrecks is planned for April, May and June in discrete near shore waters near Stamford, Bridgeport and New London using towed side scan sonar and marine magnetometers.
