DEEP Announces Public Information Meeting for the Proposed Renovation of the Bashan Lake State Boat Launch in East Haddam

Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced that a public information meeting is scheduled from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 to inform interested parties about the proposed renovation of the State boat launch located on Bashan Lake in East Haddam.  The meeting will take place at the Grange Hall on 488 Town Street in East Haddam.  Anyone interested in the particulars is invited to attend, look over the design, provide comments, and speak with DEEP officials concerning the proposed work.

Plans are to reconstruct the launch and make it a state-of-the-art, handicapped accessible facility.  The ramp will be replaced with a single lane, grooved, concrete slab surface with concrete pavers installed around the ramp to prevent erosion; and an ADA accessible, fixed dock system will be added to make launching and retrieval of boats safer and more efficient.  The parking lot will be redesigned with the turning area and handicapped parking space paved, with the rest of the lot remaining a gravel surface.  Concrete wheel stops will be used to designate parking stalls and the launch capacity will be no more than ten trailered and five car spaces.  In addition, a concrete platform with protective bollards will be added for the portable toilet.  The Department hopes to begin work in spring 2015.
