Gillette Castle State Park Decked Out in Holiday Finery
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that Gillette Castle will be adorned in holiday finery this holiday season.   Each room of the Castle will feature a picturesque variety of classic holiday ornamentation, garlands and decorated trees.
Gillette Castle State Park, located at 67 River Road, East Haddam, was actor William Gillette’s 204-acre estate known as the Seventh Sister, the focal point of which was his 24-room house reminiscent of a medieval castle.  The State of Connecticut acquired the property in 1943 and established Gillette Castle as its 40th State Park.
This year the castle features multiple model trains as a tribute to Mr. Gillette’s fondness for railroads of his day.
The Castle will be open Saturdays and Sundays from November 30 through December 22, 10:00 a.m – 4:00 p.m.  Tickets are sold until 3:30 p.m.  The Castle is open weather permitting. There will be a bonfire, free cider and hot chocolate.  The grounds of Gillette Castle State Park are open daily year round.
To add to the festivities, musical performances will be held in the Castle in the early afternoon some of the December dates and Santa will be appearing every Sunday from Noon – 3:00 p.m.
Castle entrance fee is $6 for adults and children 13 and over, $2 for children ages 6-12, and FREE for children, ages 5 and under.
