Connecticut DEEP Hosts FREE Discover Paddling Program at Hammonasset Beach State Park, Saturday, October 12
Try canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) hosts a FREE paddling event at Meigs Point Boat Launch, Hammonasset Beach State Park from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 12. Discover Paddling is a cooperative event sponsored by Meigs Point Nature Center and the CT DEEP Boating Division with the support of Action Sports, Collinsville Canoe and Kayak, Kayak Waveology, LLC and The Small Boat Shop.
Canoes, kayaks and stand up paddleboards will be available for visitors to experience for the first time or to expand knowledge of the sport. Paddling experts will answer questions and offer advice.
Water demonstrations will teach participants how to recover from a capsized boat and there will be a hands-on visual distress demos to learn how to summon help with flares or smoke signals.
A 30-minute guided paddling tour along Meigs Point will be available.
This is a free event. All safety equipment will be provided and all experience levels are welcome.
