Name of Housatonic River Victim Released
 
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today released the name of the boater from Chaplin who died on Saturday, December 8th after falling into the Housatonic River on Friday, December 7th.  The victim has been identified as 55 year-old Donald A. Bessette of 147 Palmer Road, Chaplin.

Background

On the evening of December 7th, Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police responded to a boating incident that occurred at approximately 6:50 PM when a twenty-one foot fishing vessel with three men aboard struck a piling in the Housatonic River in Shelton. One of the three men on the boat fell into the water.  The other two boaters could not locate the missing man and called 911.  Emergency personnel from the Town of Shelton responded and found the man unresponsive in the water.  He was first transported to Griffin Hospital, Derby, and was later transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he died on Saturday.  State Environmental Conservation Police, including members of the Boating Accident Reconstruction Unit, continue to investigate the incident.  No further information is available.
