Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the Gallery at Firehouse Square, New London, Announce Winner of 2013 Connecticut Boater’s Guide Cover

The Connecticut DEEP along with the Gallery at Firehouse Square, New London today announced that John Caggiano of Rockport, MA is the winner of the 2013 Connecticut Boater’s Guide Cover contest.

Announced during a ceremony held at the Gallery at Firehouse Square, New London, on Saturday, July 8, Mr. Caggiano’s oil painting, “The Aurora Under Sail” will be featured on the cover of the 2013 Connecticut Boater’s Guide Cover.  His work emphasizes color and light.

DEEP Deputy Commissioner Susan Frechette said, “It is an honor this year to partner with the Gallery at Firehouse Square and join the New London Plein Air Exhibit for CT DEEP’s announcement of the artwork selected for the 2013 Connecticut’s Boaters Guide. The winning artwork, depicting an enticing variety of boats tied to a dock and bathed in a soft light, will invoke that special anticipation that awaits boaters as they get underway on Connecticut’s waters.”

Each year the DEEP publishes a Connecticut’s Boater’s Guide. The guide is a comprehensive, pocket-sized booklet containing updated laws and regulations, safety tips, coastal access points and environmental information of interest to the boating public.  Approximately 94,000 copies will be printed and distributed statewide through marinas, town halls, libraries, and boating classes.

All artwork entered into this contest will be on display until August 11, 2012 at the Gallery at Firehouse Square.
