DEEP: Biological Condition Gradient

Biological Condition Gradient

The Biological Condition Gradient (BCG) is a conceptual model that describes six biological communities and how these communities change in response to increasing levels of stress.

{Biological Condition Gradient}

The BCG provides a common language to share biological condition across states and regions and can facilitate more accurate communication about existing biological communities. In other words, a yardstick to measure changes in biological communities. One of the useful characteristics of the BCG is that it can be applied to any biological community. DEEP has developed BCGs for macroinvertebrates and fish and is beginning to incorporate these measures into assessments for 305b Clean Water Act reporting and other management frameworks.
