DEEP: Commercial Scup Closure

Commercial Scup Closure

September 16, 2009

Reminder: The commercial fishery trip limit for the harvest of scup will be zero pounds effective 0001 hours, Saturday, September 19, 2009.

Under authority of Section 26-159a of the Connecticut General Statutes and Section 26-159a-22 of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies, the Commissioner of Environmental Protection is authorized to establish or adjust, by declaration, closed seasons, length limits, creel limits, trip limits and trip limit adjustment values in order to comply with interstate fishery management plans adopted by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission or the U.S. Department of Commerce. Trip limit, for the purposes of this regulation, means a possession limit.

In accordance with the aforementioned authority:

Effective 0001 hours, Saturday, September 19, 2009, the possession of scup is prohibited. It is anticipated that 100% of the Connecticut quota will be landed by September 19 and that the fishery will not reopen in October. If, however, some quota remains after September 19, the fishery will reopen in October until 100% of the quota has been reported landed.
