DEEP: ASMFC Hearing on the Public Information Document for Amendment 2 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Shad and River Herring

ASMFC Hearing on the Public Information Document for Amendment 2 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Shad and River Herring

November 23, 2007

The DEP Marine Fisheries Division is hosting a Public Hearing of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) to take public comment on the Public Information Document (PID) for Amendment 2 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan (FMP) for Shad and River Herring.

This amendment process has been initiated in response to concerns about the status of river herring (alewives and blueback herring) stocks. This PID does not address shad management. See the ASMFC news release (www.asmfc.org) under Press Releases for additional details.

Obtaining public comment on the PID is one of the first steps in developing an amendment to the plan. Once comment is received on the PID, the ASMFC will evaluate potential management alternatives and develop a draft amendment for public review.

Copies of the PID can be obtained via the Commission’s website at www.asmfc.org under Breaking News or by contacting the Commission at (202) 289-6400.

The Connecticut Hearing will be held at:

7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 11, 2007
DEP Marine Headquarters
333 Ferry Road
Old Lyme, CT 06371
I-95, Exit 70, Route 156 south to Ferry Road
