DEEP: Notice to Commercial Fishermen Spiny Dogfish Closure

Notice to Commercial Fishermen
Spiny Dogfish Fishery Closure

December 19, 2006

Effective immediately, the Connecticut possession limit for the commercial harvest of spiny dogfish will be reduced to zero pounds. No commercial license holder shall possess and no vessel shall land or have on board spiny dogfish until May 1, 2007.

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission estimates that the entire commercial spiny dogfish quota allocated to period 2 (November 1 through April 30) for the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut has been landed. The spiny dogfish fishery management plan of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and State regulations require that landings be prohibited once the quota has been landed.
