DEEP: Notice of Public Hearing (Bethel)

Public Notice

In accordance with the Connecticut General Statutes Section 22a-426, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Bureau of Water Protection and Land Reuse, will be conducting a public hearing to receive oral and written testimony on a site-specific amendment to the ground water quality classification maps. The proposed amendment to the classification map has been submitted pursuant to Section 22a-426-7(k)(2)(B)(iii)(I) of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies by Mr. William Farley and would lower the ground water classification from an existing classification of GA to a classification of GB at the proposed site. The Commissioner has made a tentative determination to approve the requested ground water quality reclassification.

The area proposed for reclassification is in Bethel, encompassing approximately 3 acres of the property at 15 Durant Avenue, bounded on the west by an existing Class GB area, on the east by a bedrock ridge and by property lines to the north and south. (A map of the exact area is available upon request.)

Persons with questions regarding this proposal or who wish to examine the application should contact the Department as set forth below. The Public Hearing on the proposed amendment will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017. The hearing will commence at 9:30 a.m. and continue until the last person present has testified. The Hearing Examiner may close the hearing at that time, adjourn to a later date if needed or hold the record open for the submission of additional written testimony. The Hearing will be held in Conference Room 2A, 2nd Floor, at the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, 79 Elm Street, Hartford, Connecticut.
