9/27/2012DEEP Begins Fall Trout Stocking
  The Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced that its 2012 autumn trout stockings have begun. From now through mid-October, DEEP is releasing over 29,000 trophy and adult sized trout into selected waters throughout the state.
9/27/2012Gov. Malloy, Attorney General Jepsen: Agreement Will Preserve Hundreds Of Acres As Open Space In Sprague
  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Attorney General George C. Jepsen today announced that the state will enter an agreement to preserve 230 acres of open space in the towns of Sprague and Franklin. The acreage is part of the Watson Estate, a large expanse of agricultural fields, streams and wooded areas that abuts the Shetucket River.

Murphy today announced that 60 young men and women have helped improve state parks and forests this summer while learning valuable job skills as part of the Connecticut Conservation Corps program (CCC).

  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced that while paving operations are being conducted at Gillette Castle on Tuesday September 25 and Wednesday September 26, the main entrance and parking area will be closed. The park will remain open and entrance fees will be waived.

  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), in conjunction with the Friends of Sessions Woods, is celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day on Saturday, September 22, at the Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area and Education Center in Burlington. This FREE event will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and feature many outdoor-related activities and demonstrations.

  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today shot and killed a black bear in Keney Park in Hartford that had demonstrated aggressive behavior toward humans earlier in the summer elsewhere in the state.

9/4/2012State Vegetation Management Task Force Makes Final Recommendations to Improve Roadside Forest Resiliency and Power Reliability
  The State Vegetation Management Task Force, which examined issues regarding the maintenance of trees along the state’s roads and electrical power lines, has recommended steps the state, municipalities, utilities, and property owners can take to improve the resiliency of roadside trees and forests against future catastrophic weather events while ensuring the reliability of the state’s power grid.
9/2/2012DEEP Traps and Euthanizes Problem Bear in Madison
  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection today trapped and euthanized a black bear in Madison that had been demonstrating aggressive behavior toward humans. The most recent incident occurred on August 28 when the bear charged at a homeowner who was watching and filming the bear through an open window in his home.
