RE: Individual Safety Monitoring Devices

SAFETY ALERT

This Alert is to advise all providers and support personnel of the importance of the appropriate use and maintenance of monitoring devices used for the safety and supervision of individuals.

The department expects that all providers will have a policy and procedures for the inspection and ongoing maintenance of all monitoring devices including but not limited to door alarms, listening devices and other sensors. Procedures shall ensure that these devices are regularly checked and maintained in good operating condition. Please also be advised that the use of any individual monitoring device requires PRC and/or HRC review and Regional Director approval.

Please also ensure that all support personnel have reviewed and are familiar with your agency’s policy and safety procedures, and any individual’s needs that involve the use of safety monitoring devices.

DMR Case Managers, Regional Quality Improvement staff and Central Office Quality Management staff will review this area during their visits as part of our quality improvement initiative. Documentation of the inspection of these monitoring devices/systems shall be available upon request of DMR personnel.

This policy and these procedures shall be implemented and available for review by Monday, May 14, 2007.
