New State Building Code Adoption

NOTICE– The 2016 CONNECTICUT STATE BUILDING CODE has been approved and will be effective for all permit applications on or after OCTOBER 1, 2016.

Notice of Intent to Adopt the 2016 Connecticut State Building Code

 The Department of Administrative Services, Office of the State Building Inspector, in conjunction with the Codes & Standards Committee, is announcing its intent to adopt a new State Building Code to be titled the 2016 Connecticut State Building Code.  In accordance with the requirements of Public Act 16-215, the agency will accept comments from the public for a period of forty-five (45) days, beginning June 21, 2016 through the close of business August 5, 2016.  Written comments will be received by the agency via US mail, fax or email at:

A Public Hearing will be held by the agency in conjunction with the Codes & Standards Committee on July 13, 2016 starting at 10:00 in the following location:

The 2016 Connecticut State Building Code will adopt the following national model codes, as amended in the 2016 Connecticut State Building Code:

- 2012 International Code Council (ICC) International Building Code
- 2012 International Code Council (ICC) International Residential Code
- 2012 International Code Council (ICC) International Existing Buildings Code
- 2012 International Code Council (ICC) International Mechanical Code
- 2012 International Code Council (ICC) International Plumbing Code
- 2012 International Code Council (ICC) International Energy Conservation Code
- 2014 National fire Protection Association 70 – National Electrical Code
- 2009 International Code Council / ANSI A117.1 – Accessible & Usable Buildings & Facilities
