Department Alerts Consumers to Recall of Baby Bottle and Food Warmers, Due to Fire Hazard    Product Safety Inspectors are conducting recall effectiveness checks in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of Munchkin Deluxe Bottle and Food Warmers, manufactured in China for Munchkin Inc., of North Hills, California, due to a fire hazard.

Hundreds of state residents turned out last weekend at six locations statewide, with more than 9 tons of personal documents to be shredded at a free event sponsored by the Department, Shred-It, and WFSB. The response was so positive that another widespread shredding event is scheduled on Saturday, September 13th.  Exact locations will be posted in the next few weeks on this website.

Department Announces Winners of “Law Day” Photography Contest
The Department of Consumer Protection has announced the winners of its 2008 LAW DAY PHOTO CONTEST, Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. announced today.  First prize goes to Molly Weathered, a junior at Foran High School in Milford. Second place was awarded to Leah Pryor, also a junior, who attends of Amity High School in Woodbridge.

The Department is alerting Connecticut consumers to a recall by Gourmet Boutique, L.L.C., a Jamaica, N.Y., firm, of approximately 286,320 pounds of fresh and frozen meat and poultry products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.  State food inspectors are now conducting recall effectiveness checks in stores that are known to have carried these products.  Thus far, Shaw’s and Big Y stores have confirmed that they sold some of the salads prior to the recall.
