DCP: Real Estate Appraisers

Real Estate Appraisers

Real estate appraisers require a license from Department of Consumer Protection. Please note that there are several different appraisal licenses.

Provisional Appraiser additional requirements:
All provisional appraisers & their sponsor(s) must complete a course in supervisor/provisional education.
There are currently 2 courses approved that meet this requirement:
  1. Mandatory CT Appraisal Law with Supervisor / Provisional Education (3hrs)
  2. Supervisor/Trainee Education course (4hrs).
In addition supervisors must be a certified appraiser for a minimum of 3 years with no disciplinary action in past 3yrs. that would prevent them from supervising a provisional appraiser.

Provisional Appraisers are required to complete at least 1 pre-licensing course each continuing education cycle.  The pre-licensing course will also count as part of your required continuing education.

Provisional Appraisers looking to upgrade to Certified Residential or Certified General must hold a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
All experience and education must be completed & approved prior to sitting for the appraisal exam.

Questions about the new requirements may be emailed to DCP.realestate@ct.gov.  For the complete list of changes please see the Appraisal Qualifications Board overview.

IMPORTANT: The Mandatory Appraisal Law class for the state of Connecticut is required for all licensees, including out of state licensees, as part of the 28-hour continuing education cycle. All education must correspond with the May to April cycle.  All appraisers, including provisionals, shall complete twenty eight hours of continuing education, to be demonstrated upon your renewal in April of 2018.
