Office of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities

 

The Office of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities is a state agency that:

  • Provides information about disability rights and related issues, and referrals to sources of service and support. 
  • Advocates for people who are at risk of becoming an inpatient, or who are currently living in a state institution or mental health facility, or who who have transitioned out of such institution.
  • Investigates allegations of abuse and neglect concerning adults with mental retardation
  • Reviews applications to install wheelchair lifts in non-residential buildings.
