Electronic Process for Filing Unfair Trade Practices Act Complaints will Speed Process, Save on Costs
HARTFORD, January 3 -- Attorneys wishing to file a complaint with the State of Connecticut under the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA) may now file electronically, according to Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein and Attorney General George Jepsen. Beginning today, practitioners may satisfy their requirements under Conn. Gen. Stat. § 42-110g(c) via electronic transmission to this email address: CUTPA@ct.gov. The complaint document must be attached as a searchable PDF file, and the case caption should be included in the subject line of the e-mail. Upon receipt, a copy of the submission will be forwarded directly to each agency, and an auto response email confirming receipt will be issued to the sender.
“We always welcome ideas that streamline and improve our methods of conducting business in Connecticut, and we hope that members of the bar avail themselves of this option in order to save time and reduce costs to themselves, their clients, and the State,” Commissioner Rubenstein said.
“In these difficult economic times, everyone – from families to attorneys and their clients to the state – has to find ways to do more with less,” said Attorney General Jepsen. “This is another effort on the part of Consumer Protection and my office to help streamline processes and become more efficient in how we address certain complaints.”
Law firms are asked not to send general inquiries to this e-mail and not to add the box to their service lists.
