East Granby, CT
On Thursday, April 4, 2013, East Granby, Granby, Suffield, and Windsor Locks Public Schools will host a transition fair for students with disabilities, their families and educators.
The fair will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at East Granby Middle School Auditorium located at 95 South Main Street in East Granby, Connecticut.
Attendees will learn about transition services and related agencies including:
- Department of Developmental Services
- Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services
- Employment Service Providers
- The Bureau of Rehabilitation Services
- Guardianship and Financial Planning
A workshop entitled, “High School Transition Planning: What Parents and Families of Students with Disabilities Need to Know,” will also be presented from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the fair. Parents and other family members are vital participants in the transition planning process because they provide a valuable and unique perspective of the student. This is especially true because a student’s ethnicity and culture must be considered when developing a plan for transition. To become active participants in the transition process, family members must be informed about The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004) regulations specific to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and transition services at the secondary level. Missy Wrigley from SERC and Bill Bannish from Options will present.
