What is the GLSEN Connecticut Safe Schools Summit?

GLSEN Connecticutís 2nd annual statewide Safe Schools Summit is a student-led and chapter-coordinated effort to empower youth, educators, and other community allies with the knowledge, resources, and skills to make their schools safer for all students, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.

{GLSEN Students}

Who is leading the Summit?

GLSEN Connecticutís Student Organizing (Org.) Team, Jump-Start and Students of Color Organizing (SOCO), and chapter leaders will facilitate workshops and activities for participants on how to make their schools safer for all. The summit will also feature guest speakers and community organizations that share the summitís mission to address and prevent bullying and harassment in schools.

Who is this Summit for?

While our chapterís Jump-Start and SOCO teams will be facilitating workshops for students and Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) or similar organizations in middle and high school (Gr. 6-12), GLSEN Connecticutís adult chapter leaders will also be leading programming for GSA advisors, educators, school administrators, and other adult allies.

What are the goals of the Summit?

GLSEN Connecticut and the Student Org. Team are determined to:

  • Offer participants a safe and supportive environment to explore and utilize tools and resources for improving their school climates.
  • Provide participants with networking opportunities and strategies for promoting more inclusive and equitable environments for students in their school and community.
  • Empower participants to change the climate of bullying and harassment in their schools.

Are there any costs or fees?

This summit is 100% free, including registration, programming, and lunch.
