The Connecticut Juvenile Training School (CJTS) is a secure facility for boys who are committed delinquent. It's mission is to prepare residents for successful community re-entry through innovative educational, treatment and rehabilitative services. CJTS is built upon a 34 acre site in Middletown and has extensive space for educational, vocational and recreational programming.
Opened in 2001, CJTS has gone through extensive changes for the betterment of residents and staff. These changes have resulted in an increased focus on safety, community re-entry and family involvement. Services are increasingly individual based with a focus on the needs and strengths of each resident. A Positive Peer Culture has been established that promotes residents having an active role in each others treatment. Clinical programming includes substance abuse treatment, anger management and individual, family and group therapy. The Boys and Girls Club of Hartford opened a satellite club on grounds at CJTS for all residents in 2006. Relationships with community providers are established while the child is in residence to enhance the transition process. |
