"My foster mother taught me how to love and trust again. She saved my life. She is my hero. She gave me a sense of family that I will forever treasure. If you ask me, that is a priceless gift.
                 Jessica, Former Foster Child
The first step in becoming licensed as a foster/adoptive parent is calling 1-888-KID-HERO.  They can send you an informational packet. They will also take some information from you and refer you to an open house in your area. The Open House is an informational session which allows you to ask any questions you may have. If after the Open House you are still interested in becoming a licensed foster parent, a personal home interview will be scheduled. After the personal home interview, the Department of Children and Families (DCF) would then assess if you had the preliminary qualifications to be invited to a series of 10 PRIDE classes. PRIDE stands for Parents Resource for Information, Development and Education. These classes are very informative about DCF and the children we serve.
