  2. Approval of the Minutes: James Hexter moved that the agenda be approved with the following corrections that the word “note” be changed to “not” in the second line of item 1 and that the word “note” be changed to “not” in the second line of item 2. Chris Blake and James Hexter voted in favor of approving the agenda. Robin Wood and Ellyn Little abstained as they were absent from the meeting.

  3. Current Business: James reviewed how he developed a list of websites and Facebook pages to publicize Partners in Policymaking. He agreed to re-send it to members should they have not received it. Chris Blake discussed the importance of building relationships with organizations while asking them to display information. The committee agreed that this should ideally be done in person, but if necessary via phone call. The group agreed that through its message it should be asking for something targeted such as new Council members or Partners in Policy making Participants. Robin Wood pointed out that the Committee had already created a flyer and that we could use it as a template. Melissa Marshall agreed to put the new language on the template

  4. Message About the Council: Chris Blake made the following motion seconded by James Hexter: The message that the Council sends should now say “The Connecticut Council on Developmental Disabilities promotes the full inclusions of all people in society through self-advocacy, systems and policy change. We are currently recruiting people who can be Council members or who would like to learn to become leaders through our Partners in Policy Making Program.” The motion passed unanimously.

  5. Message Dissemination: Melissa Marshall agreed to ask Council staff to prepare the document and distribute it electronically to Committee members and also to mail the 20 physical copies each of the flyer. Committee members agreed to distribute as many of the flyers as possible to libraries, schools, community centers, hospitals and other community organizations.

Robin Wood suggested and the group agreed that a good place to promote the Council and its initiatives, like Partners would be through the annual Youth Leadership Forum which occurs every July at UCONN at the Storrs campus. The group agreed that this was a good idea and Robin will work on making the arrangements for Chris Blake, if he is available, and possibly other committee members to present.

  6. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 11:30.
