Charity Highlight: Handicap International
Co-recipient of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize, Handicap International is an independent and impartial organization working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. One of Handicap's priorities is to prevent injuries from landmines through weapons and landmine clearance, risk education activities, stockpile management, and advocacy to ban landmines and cluster bombs.

             {Jackie Henry Rafiq}
Pictured Above is Jacqueline Henry-Rafiq, who has worked at the Department of Transportation (DOT)  in Newington for 26 years. She is a Transportation Supervising Planner and for the past 18 months; Jackie has been working in the Bureau of Public Transportation in the Transit and Ridesharing Operations Unit. She works with the commuter buses that provide express transportation to and from the suburbs in and out of Hartford. She also works with ADA paratransit services as well as privately owned Commuter Park and Ride lots. Right now, she is concentrating with others in her area on gearing up for the CTfastrak guideway, the new bus-only guideway, providing commuter service from Waterbury, Cheshire, Southington, Bristol and New Britain to Hartford. Jackie attended the Open House and has ridden the buses herself and says that they are very nice. Read more...
