CSAO: Jury Verdict in New Britain Sexual Assault

Jury Verdict in New Britain Sexual Assault

Luis Rodriguez, 36 of New Britain was convicted by a jury of three counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree after three hours of deliberation Friday. The jury heard testimony over two days earlier in the week.

The incident took place in New Britain on April 30, 2006. A woman walking on Lafayette street was forced into a car occupied by two men. They drove her to the area of Marimac Road and repeatedly sexually assaulted her.

A break in the case came in 2016 when a DNA database search gave an initial match to Rodriguez. A confirmation sample was taken from Rodriguez in 2016. The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Forensic Science Laboratory was able to match Rodriguez’s DNA with samples taken from the woman in 2006.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 30, 2018 with Judge Julia Dewey.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Brett J. Salafia.
