West Haven Man Charged With Workers’ Compensation Fraud, Perjury, Failure to Carry Coverage

MICHAEL K. GARRISON, age 55, of 10 Cold Spring Road, West Haven, was charged with one count each of Workers’ Compensation Fraud, Perjury and Failure to Carry Workers’ Compensation Insurance.

Garrison was arrested today by Inspectors from the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney today. He faces a maximum possible sentence of 30 years of incarceration if convicted.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Garrison is accused of failing to report income from his own landscaping company, Michael Garrison Landscaping, LLC, while receiving Workers’ Compensation benefits from the Town of Fairfield where he worked as a groundskeeper.

The warrant further alleges that Garrison denied while being deposed under oath by an attorney for the town that he had received benefits while working. Receipts later showed that he was in fact paid for work done by his business.

Additionally, Garrison did not have workers’ compensation insurance for his landscaping company as required by law, the warrant states.

Garrison was arraigned at Bridgeport Superior Court, G.A. No. 2. He was released on a written promise to appear and the case was continued to December 11, 2013. The charges are merely allegations and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is being prosecuted by the Worker’s Compensation Fraud Control Bureau in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney.
