Judiciary Committee - March 22, 2017 - S.B. No. 1032

TESTIMONY OF THE DIVISION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE

IN SUPPORT OF:

S.B. No. 1032 (RAISED) AN ACT CONCERNING TECHNICAL REORGANIZATION OF STATUTES INVOLVING THE ILLEGAL SALE OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES.

JOINT COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY
March 22, 2017

The Division of Criminal Justice respectfully recommends the Committee’s JOINT FAVORABLE REPORT for S.B. No. 1032, An Act Concerning Technical Reorganization of Statutes Involving the Illegal Sale of Controlled Substances.

Richard Taft, a retired staff attorney with the Legislative Commissioner’s Office, suggested this bill to the Connecticut Sentencing Commission. A working group established by the Sentencing Commission reviewed these suggestions and the full Commission unanimously endorsed this legislation at its December 8, 2016, meeting.

S.B. No. 1032 is strictly technical in nature. It is designed to make the statute clearer with no substantive changes. The Division of Criminal Justice respectfully recommends the Committee’s JOINT FAVORABLE REPORT.

In conclusion, the Division thanks the Committee for affording this opportunity to provide input on this matter and would be happy to provide any additional information the Committee might require or to answer any questions that you might have.
