Connecticut Fire Academy Staff Independence Day/Furlough Day
  Please be advised, due to the Independence Day holiday, the staff offices at the Connecticut Fire Academy will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2009. Further, the full-time staff of the Commission on Fire Prevention and Control will be taking a furlough day on Monday, July 6, 2009 due to the state’s fiscal crisis. Therefore, the Connecticut Fire Academy will be closed Friday, July 3rd through Monday, July 6 reopening on Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Please note the Introduction to the Fire Service program will commence as scheduled on Monday, July 6th. Agency information may be found at our web site www.ct.gov/cfpc. In the event of an emergency, you may call 860-566-0690. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

General Assembly Cuts Training Reimbursement Funds
  The Commission on Fire Prevention and Control has been informed that action taken by the Connecticut General Assembly as part of their Deficit Mitigation Plan for the Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2009 has reduced the Entry Level Training Reimbursement Account by an additional $200,000. This action will prevent the agency from reimbursing any municipality or fire department with students currently enrolled in Firefighter I or Recruit Firefighter Training programs.

DDS and CFA Fire Prevention and Safety Awareness Training
  The Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) in conjunction with the Connecticut Fire Academy recently unveiled its new Fire Prevention and Safety Awareness Video Training Program. The first of its kind in the country, the training is designed to standardize the education of 15,000 public and private employees as well as assist over 20,000 families and consumers in the state with fire prevention and safety procedures.

2009 Seminar Series
  June 5th presentation cancelled. The next scheduled Seminar Series is during June Fire School on the subject of Firefighter Cancer Support Network scheduled for Friday June 5, 2009. The seminar is presented by Mike Dubron a Firefighter Paramedic with Los Angeles County Fire Department and President of the Firefighters Cancer Support Network. The Seminar Series will be held at the Connecticut Fire Academy.

HAZ MAT Seminar Series
  Wednesday June 17, 2009 is the next presentation of the Haz Mat Seminar Series delivered by John Sachen discussing the commodity Gases. John's presentation "Holy Smoke-It's a Gas" gives an in-depth review of gasses and their properties.

2009 Introduction to the Fire Service
  This program targets Junior Firefighters, Cadet Firefighters,and BSA Explorers who are affiliated with a municipal Fire Department and are between the ages of 14-17 years old. Session one, June 24-28 is for ages 16-17 and Session two, July 6-10 is for ages 14-15.
