The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) administers a range of federal and state programs that identify, register and protect the buildings, sites, structures, districts and objects that comprise Connecticut's cultural heritage.
The State Historic Preservation Office administers the federal and state tax credit programs in addition to grant programs for restoration and historic rehabilitation.
The State Historic Preservation Office operates four state-owned museums open for public visitation: Henry Whitfield State Museum in Guilford, Old New-Gate Prison & Copper Mine in East Granby, the Prudence Crandall Museum in Canterbury, and the Eric Sloane Museum & Kent Iron Furnace in Kent.
