Balogh has expertise in the areas of biological control and integrated management of vegetable diseases. He conducted research aimed at developing bacteriophage-based biological control of bacterial diseases of citrus (citrus canker and citrus bacterial spot); improving efficacy of phage-based control of tomato bacterial spot by optimizing application timing and developing protective formulations; and predicting phage biological control efficacy based on basic phage characteristics. He also evaluated novel pesticides as part of integrated management strategy for the control of tomato bacterial spot.
