Volunteer Opportunities at BESB

The Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind seeks to enhance the quality of life of visually impaired people in Connecticut.  Its programs are designed to foster independence and to encourage blind people of all ages to fully use their abilities in living active and productive lives.

BESB's extended staff includes volunteers who provide important additional services. These services may be performed directly with a blind person or in other support roles. {woman reading to man} {passengers in car}

Volunteers are needed as:

  • Readers

  • Drivers

  • Shoppers {two women shopping} {woman at computer}

  • Mail Assistants

  • Visitors

  • Transcribers

  • Office Assistants

Application Process

The application process for a BESB volunteer position includes:

  1. Completion of Volunteer Application form

  2. Reference check

  3. One-hour interview / Orientation
