WELCOME TO BESB

About BESB

The Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind (BESB) within the Department of Rehabilitation Services is responsible for the confidential registry of people who areblind in Connecticut and provides, within available resources, comprehensive low vision services, specialized education services, life skills training, case management, and vocational services to individuals of all ages who are legally blind and to children who are visually impaired. The bureau assists them in acquiring the skills and support services necessary to be independent.

Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide quality educational and rehabilitative services to all people who are legally blind or deaf-blind and children who are visually impaired at no cost to our clients or their families.

Our Vision Statement

Our vision is a society in which all people who are legally blind or deaf-blind and children who are visually impaired are fully integrated into our schools, communities, and workplaces with equal opportunities and benefits.

If you are experiencing a vision loss that makes simple daily tasks difficult or impossible, you may be eligible for services from the Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind (BESB).  Talk to your eye care professional, physician, or a neurologist about submitting an eye report form to BESB.

Would you like to help a blind neighbor by driving, shopping, reading, or sorting their mail?  Call the Volunteer Coordinator at 800-842-4510 for more information and an application.

EMPLOYERS! --   BESB can offer on-the-job training funds when you hire a BESB job referral candidate. For more information, follow this link Services for Employers.
