Senior Resources—Agency on Aging and the
Direct Care Workforce Shortage Team invite you to attend a Community Forum on November 12th from 6 - 9 pm.
The forum is a follow up to the recent white paper, When No One Cares and will feature a panel of local experts fielding audience questions involving the direct care workforce challenges of:
Recruitment • Retention • Reimbursement
Older adults and people with disabilities are the largest consumers of direct care services, often provided by Home Health Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants and Personal Care Attendants. Residents of any age can turn to direct care workers for assistance when recovering from accident, injury or illness. But an alarming trend is on the rise: as demand grows, the workforce is getting smaller. What happens when no one is there to care?
Nationally it’s estimated that by 2016 we will need 4 million direct care workers. This demand for paraprofessionals is:
¨ Greater than the need for teachers in grades K-12 (3.8 million)
¨ Greater than the need for registered nurses (3.1 million)
¨ Greater than the need for waiters/waitresses (2.6 million)
