Senior Centers: Experts at Living Well - September 2013
From the first day a Senior Center opened its doors in New York City in 1943 until present day, the mission of senior centers across America is to provide social activities, nutritious meals and case management to older adults.
Seventy years later, Connecticutís 163 senior centers continue to provide the resources and tools that enable older adults the opportunity to make choices that will enrich their lives. Centers offer a variety of health and fitness classes and lifelong learning opportunities and encourage involvement in the center and the community. Whether itís trying Tai Chi, Zumba, attending evidence-based health and prevention programs or enjoying the sounds of a local musician, these activities add richness to the lives of older adults in Connecticut.
This September, the State Department on Aging congratulates our senior centers this month and every month and celebrates the programming and services that enable older adults to become Experts at Living Well.
