Medicare has approved HPV testing as a preventive benefit.
Medicare covers a preventive pelvic examination (which includes a clinical breast examination) and Pap test every two years for all female beneficiaries. This exam is offered yearly for females who have high risk factors for cervical or vaginal cancer.
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced on February 5, 2016, that retro-actively effective July 9, 2015, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services will be offering an additional preventive benefit that includes screening for the Human Papillomavirus Virus (HPV) every five years during a regular pap smear for females between the ages of 30 to 65 years of age.
Medicare beneficiaries receiving these preventive benefits are not charged the annual Medicare Part B deductible or co-insurance.
