Long Term Care Ombudsman Program
PA 14-55 AN ACT CONCERNING IMPROVING TRANSPARENCY OF NURSING HOME OPERATIONS

{Governor Malloy signs a bill.}

The Connecticut General Assembly passed a bill during its 2014 session that will improve reporting requirements and provide the State with valuable information in order to assess the overall financial health and stability of nursing facilities. This bill will provide greater financial transparency and protect the rights and interests of residents as well as the State of CT. The bill requires that operators of nursing homes who pay more than $10,000 per year to related parties or companies to include profit-and-loss statements for such companies.

Connecticut State Ombudsman Nancy Shaffer and Resident Council President and member of the Executive Board of the Statewide Coalition of Presidents of Resident Councils and Chair of the National Consumer Voice Leadership Council, Brian Capshaw, joined other advocates at the State Capitol for Governor Dannel Malloys signing of the bill.
