Governor Rell Welcomes Home Connecticut Troops
On November 22 at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Windsor Locks, Governor M. Jodi Rell welcomed home soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
The Battalion is commanded by Newington resident and gubernatorial aide Lt. Col. Francis Evon.
While serving in Afghanistan since January, the 102nd partnered with the Afghan security forces in assisting, training and mentoring the Afghan Army, Police, and Border Police forces in order to strengthen, stabilize and legitimize the Government of Afghanistan. The 102nd Infantry is headquartered in New Haven with units located in Norwalk, Manchester, New Britain and Branford. The 102d Infantry Battalion is one of the oldest serving units in Connecticut constituted in 1672. A photo of Gov. Rell and Evon is attached.
