Governor Rell: Funding For Housing and Development Projects
To Promote Job Creation, Capital Investments
Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced several projects that will create jobs and make significant capital investments throughout the state are expected to be approved by the state Bond Commission meeting on July 13.
“Connecticut is just starting to emerge from one of the worst downtowns in memory, and the state needs to continue to make investments in our housing options and businesses to ensure a robust recovery and to sustain growth,” said Governor Rell. “One focus of our economic development agenda is to create an environment that can help Connecticut companies remain and grow here. That is what these projects are about. We are committed to assisting companies that are investing in technology, their workers and their communities.”
The Bond Commission is expected to approve the following projects.
· A $3 million grant will assist Frito-Lay North America’s plans to invest $66 million into the company’s Killingly plant to add more production and warehouse space and a larger wastewater treatment system for the facility. The project, which will add 100,000 square feet of space and require new machinery and equipment, ensures the company’s 500 employees remain in Connecticut.
· A $4 million loan will be provided to Nestlé Waters North America Inc. to ensure its North American headquarters remains in Fairfield County, keeping 475 positions and creating 25 jobs in the state. The company plans to invest $27.8 million into its new location at 900 Long Ridge Road in Stamford.
· Oakleaf Waste Management will receive a $3 million grant to assist its headquarters relocation from East Hartford to Windsor. The larger facility will accommodate current and future growth. The company plans to add 40 positions to its Connecticut workforce of 387.
In addition, $10 million will fund the sixth round of the state’s Housing Trust Fund program. The program provides grants or low-interest loans to help spur the construction of housing for low- and moderate-income families. Eligible recipients include non-profit and for-profit organizations, municipalities and housing authorities.
