Governor Rell Names Farmington Resident
to State Board of Ed
Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that she has nominated Pamela Partridge West of Farmington to be a member of the State Board of Education.
“Pam is a knowledgeable, creative, strategic thinker who generates practical ideas and implements practical solutions,” Governor Rell said. “She has built a strong reputation for assembling productive and cohesive teams, creating opportunity for others and respecting diversity. Pam has tremendous energy and enthusiasm combined with a passion for public service. In addition to her leadership on countless boards and committees throughout the state, she has been a devoted volunteer and tireless advocate for public education in Connecticut. I believe that she will be a great addition to the Board.”
Mrs. West is a retired Vice President and Senior Business Development Officer of U.S. Trust Company. At U.S. Trust, she was responsible for business development in the greater Hartford region, advising clients on a broad array of investment, planning, fiduciary, philanthropic and banking issues.
In 2009, Governor Rell named Mrs. West to serve as vice chair of a reconstituted board of directors of the Connecticut Student Loan Foundation and ordered the board to take immediate corrective actions to address mismanagement and a host of poor business practices.
Mrs. West is a member of the state Judicial Review Council and is an honorary member of numerous boards in Connecticut and Massachusetts. She holds a degree in English from Williams College.
Mrs.West will serve a term ending March 1, 2011 or until a successor is appointed and has qualified, whichever is longer. She succeeds Linda McMahon.
The State Board of Education consists of 11 members who are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the General Assembly. The Board focuses on creating quality education from preschool through high school and creates high standards for all Connecticut students in reading, writing, math and science.
