Eligible seniors must be a state resident, age 65 or older as of November 1, who cannot make timely payments on bills for deliverable fuels (generally heating oil or propane), electricity or natural gas. The program would pay a one-time benefit of up to $500 directly to the supplier or utility that heats the beneficiary’s home.
Applicants will need to prove they are responsible for paying for heating by showing a copy of a bill in either name or their spouse’s name reflecting costs incurred between November 1, 2008, and May 15, 2009.
