Governor M. Jodi Rell today asked Attorney General Richard Blumenthal to go to court to fight “an egregious breach of contract” by the Mashantucket Pequot tribe, operators of the Foxwoods casino, which is dramatically affecting the state’s rightful share of slot machine revenues. The tribe has begun a new promotion through which customers receive coupons that can be used at Foxwoods slot machines. This has the effect, however, of reducing the state’s agreed-upon share of slots revenues because the tribe is not counting the revenues represented by the coupons when it calculates the state’s “take” from the slot machines.

The benefit of warning radios was illustrated by events that occurred at Charles F. Johnson Elementary School in Endicott, N.Y. The school received a warning from their weather radio, allowing the principal to alert the teachers and make sure that all of the students were inside and safely in the school’s interior hallway. Within minutes of the warning, 70 mph winds ripped the roof off of the school, but no one was hurt.
